Much of the material used at the Leeds Guitar Studio is specially written according to an incredibly simple and effective methodology developed over many years of teaching. Many of these ideas are of the "of course, why didn't I think of that!" variety and yet are not generally known to many players and teachers. The key aspect of this is to express whatever concept being taught in the simplest possible way. Of course this is only possible for someone who understands their subject completely. LGS students routinely describe the experience of "the fog clearing" and what once seemed impossibly difficult becoming suddenly relatively simple. Of course we're not about to publish these ideas on the web so here are a selection teaching charts covering a range of subjects and levels. Anyway, the sheets given are merely guides for later study. The insights are given during the lessons on a one to one basis and very often are the sorts of things that are not easily notated. Currently the library runs to many 100's of PDF's and audio files covering all subjects from harmony to specific styles and techniques. This is why real life teachers are still so necessary even in the age of the internet and the instructional DVD and this is never truer than when instrumental technique is involved. After all, a DVD or website cannot hear what you sound like or see what you are doing close up and in detail.
In the early stages the pupil will often work using these sheets but as they develop and aquire greater musical independence they will find themselves working on a broad range of musical material ranging from jazz standards, classical works and solo transcriptions depending on their interests. There are audio tracks to back up much of this material. In essence you'll get the best aspects of a classical training combined with a modern multimedia approach where the emphasis is on practical playing skills. Whatever technical problem or challenge you're facing there'll be the answer ready for you in LGS library. Best of all the material is constantly being added to and developed. What you see and hear here is a just a tiny percentage of the whole.
All the material here is copyright of Graham Young and Leeds Guitar Studio.
